Alright, you have reached the point in your life when you are about to move out of your parent’s house. Or maybe you have reached the point in your life when you have got more kids than bedrooms and need to move apartments. Perhaps, you are in none of the mentioned situations. Maybe you need to move offices because your company is thriving. There is also a possibility that you are moving to Maine because your loved one got a job there. Whatever the reason may be, the point is that you definitely need to move. The questions above questions that remain are when do you do it? What is the best time of the year to move? What is the best time of the year for you to move? Let’s see how you can make this decision.

Moving seasons

As you can probably imagine, seasonality is one of the characteristics of the moving industry as well. In order to save money, you can try to move in the off-season. In that case, there are adversities that you need to overcome. On the other hand, you may decide to move in the peak of the moving season. Sure, you will pay for the move slightly more, no doubt about it. Still, there are perks to moving during the moving season. After all, if there were no perks to it, no one would do it, right? Therefore, the first thing you need to be doing when you find out that you need to move is making a moving checklist. You should be doing this right away after making the decision to move. Organization is the key to a successful move.

Is off-season the best time of the year to move?

This is probably one of the most important questions you need to answer. Moving in the off-season will be cheaper and that is fine. On the other hand, there are a few other points that you should keep in mind when making a decision to move in the off-season:

  • Weather is not going to be idle for moving. Rain, sleet, snow, ice, cold, wind, fog are just some of the conditions you need to count on.
  • The day is going to be shorter. Moving requires time and a lot of it. People often think that they can get it all done in a day. Well, sure they can get items shipped. Still, arranging furniture, kitchen, bedrooms and the living room will require a few more days at least.
  • Heating needs to be on in your new apartment. In case the previous owner canceled all utilities, this can represent a serious issue. You would not want to move your family into a cold apartment, especially if you have small kids.
Snowing in the city

Moving in the winter is cheaper, but would you be eager to have your furniture covered in snow while you load it onto the moving truck?

Obviously, there are many reasons why you should not move in the off-season. There are, however, some really good ones that make it the best time of the year to move.

Why is the off-season the best time of the year to move?

First of all, your move is going to come cheaper. Less work for moving companies in Rhode Island, for example, means that the rate you are going to be quoted is going to be pretty lower. Bear in mind that there are some states that do not really go through seasonality. If you move within Nevada, you bet your rate is going to be similar throughout the year. Nevertheless, we are going to presume you are moving in areas that get to experience all four seasons. In this case, apart from the cheaper move, there is another thing that will attract you to move in this period.

Moving during the off-season means that you will more easily contract the right moving company for you. During the season, you may find yourself in a situation where your top three moving picks are booked on the dates that suit you best. Given the amount of work moving companies get in the off-season, it would really be unlikely that you cannot book your preferable moving company for the dates that you like.

Moving in the off-season can really be the right decision for you. Also, off-season may indeed be the best time of the year to move. However, some would disagree.

Moving during the summer

Moving during the summer is what most of the people do. It is the most expensive time for the move too. And it is the most difficult time to hire your preferable moving company. So, why do people do it?

Summer is great for outdoor activities, including moving.

It is very clear. Sun will be shining, while rain will be obsolete. Not to mention strong winds and cold, they will be gone. The biggest perk of moving in the summertime, the peak of the moving season is the weather. Simple as that. No need to worry about the above-mentioned conditions. Just book your day for the move and you will be good to go. Sure, there will be rainy days from time to time, but you would be very unlucky to book your move for one of those days. Still, be mindful of the forecast. Just in case.

Another reason why people move in the summer is that it gives them time to enroll their kids in new schools. Also, it is easier to get it all over with when the kids do not need to worry about homework and grades. Take the opportunity and get it done.

Lastly, summertime is great for garage sales. Surely you are not going to take all of your stuff with you. Instead of throwing them away, sell them.

When is the best time of the year to move?

This is a question that we cannot answer just like that. As you have seen, it is much more personal than what it seems. Therefore, make your checklist and decide when is the best time of the year for you to move.
